8/3 Saturday (Day 8)

Last night motel was a little different. It had a bed that you could put quarters in to vibrate. We forgot to try it. Oh well, that's $.25 extra in out pockets :)

There was a historical marker out front, so I got a photo of it. I took it while Pat was in with the lady running the place. The lady told Pat she better hurry up and get going because her husband was outside pacing around. She didn't want Pat to get in trouble. We thought that was pretty funny.

When we left this morning and we tried the cookies. They were good.

The first thing we did when we was head right for a cave that was in the area. It was a different type of cave than I had ever been in. There was only one stalactite in it and no stalagmites. It was a cave made from an earthquake that caused a crack in the top limestone. The water then leaked through the crack and washed away the sandstone underneath. It was also quite large. We got a couple of nice sweatshirts and played a game of mini golf there.

If you wanted to go on a "Three hour tour" in the cave you could. It was $20 & was unguided in the undeveloped area of the cave. You could do whatever you wanted. We didn't have time though, as we wanted to do some more driving. I don't have many photos, because my flash was not strong enough to light very far back in the cave. Oh well, here's what I got.

This is our tour guide. She liked bats and gave us a little info about them. Pat asked her a couple of questions for info about attracting them to her yard to eat the skeeters.

We found more good roads, but there was not much else to say about today until we tried to stop. While we were on the twisties we would see places to stay until we decided to stop. Oh yea, twisties :)

We thought this was kinda cool. As we were driving through town...yea...I didn't write down the name so I don't have a clue where...we saw this trolley going along beside us.

I don't know what kind of winters they have down here, but I could not imagine having this drive and the one to the right in Illinois. You would be constantly parking on the road all winter long.

We thought this looked cool.

Hey..another covered bridge :)

We had to stop and turn around to get a photo of this one :)

Then we could not find a single place. While looking we got into a traffic jamb for some sort of festival. I guess there were 3 festivals going on in town this weekend (Zanesville, OH). An Indian Fest, Langa Basket thing, and a Baseball thing. We finally found a place, after driving around, for $72. Not that $72 was outrageous, but considering all we wanted was a place to sleep and didn't use any of their other facilities, it was a little pricey. It was the most expensive of the trip, with next being $59.

It was sorta strange that we found Rt 666 so I took a photo. Since it was getting dark the glass reflected some and made it look really eary.
