We started the day a little slow as we where planning on being at RSpeed first thing in the morning, but they don’t open until 9 and we got there at 10. We knew we there there when we saw all the Miata’s.
We walked in and started talking to the guys Hector & Joe. They where pretty cool about us just showing up & showed us around the shop. They showed us some of the stuff they had that we where looking for & then had to work on cars to keep with their schedule. So Pat & I stood out in the shop deciding what we wanted to do/buy.
The front desk
While standing around another Miata pulled in & we checked it out. After looking at it for a while, Pat herd someone say Randy Stocker. Randy used to live in the Chicago area & was very active in the Windy City Miata Club. Once she heard that she went out on the search for him. She finally found him after running around RSpeed. We then talked to him for over an hour in the shop.
Randy & Pat
He then decided he had better get back to work & asked Hector to take him home to his other car so he could get back. I thought hey, I could take you & Hector could stay here & keep doing his thing in the shop. Randy said that sounded like a good idea, so I gave him a ride home. When we got to his house & he took me in his garage to show me all his cool Miata stuff. I just drooled :) No photos here...just lots of drool...on his garage floor...oh well...at least it was only a garage floor ;)
He then headed back to work & luckily his work was only a couple of miles from RSpeed so I could follow him all the way back except for the last turn to get me on the correct street that goes past RSpeed. That was a big help in getting me back. Pat spent the entire time at RSpeed talking to them. I’m surprised they didn’t put her to work. They where threatening to get her on Excel &have her enter data for them. On a side note, they used Macs & liked Home Star Runner. Man, Miatas, Macs, & Home Star Runner Fans. Gotta like that place!
While there and checking out there stuff we figured out my break pads where bad. I thought I really should replace them before getting home, especially if we went through the mountains anywhere along our trip. So I had them put on for me. It made me sad to pay someone to put stuff on my car for me, but if I ran into problems, I wouldn’t have any tools to help me out. I had to tools to do it, but not everything I would need if I did run into troubles, what ever they would be. So I had them do it, and I figured better them than Mazda. Keep it in the Miata community. While they where doing the work, I got to watch, so it was not all bad :) Plus they obviously had performance pads, and I'm sure Mazda wouldn't have had those.
Once they got the work done I went back into the shop to see the parts they had. Pat was interested in their air intake for her car. It was on Jim & Judy Ebens car that we got to borrow & we both liked it. They said not only did they not make it for her car, they don’t even make it for the other cars any more. Although they thought they did have one at MAZMART (which we where going to go to after we left RSpeed anyway) so they called up MAZMART to check it out. They did have one! Hector then explained how to retro fit one to a 96 Miata and gave us a couple of parts to help us along.
After doing that, Pat got me a birthday present :) I have been looking for a mount to change my radio out & put a new one in that would allow me to then put 3 Auto Meter 2-1/16” gauges under it. They have a bracket just for that & Pat got it for me!
I then was looking for a marker light to replace a side marker that was broken when I got my Miata & they had one. I was going to buy it, but they just gave it to me as a Birthday present. I know it was a very inexpensive present, but a present's a present!
I then was on the search for an air intake they have for my supercharger. I checked it out & it did look nice & I read good reviews on the net about it. After looking at it, I could see it was a nice piece & decided to get it. I figured if I did it now I would not have to pay shipping, I got it on our trip which makes it special, & I got to pick it up at RSpeed. I also got a bracket to relocate my cruise module. Only thing was they did not have any in stock, so they are going to ship it to me free.
After leaving RSpeed we headed to MAZMART. We picked up the air intake & and some of the other parts. They had a tail light that I noticed was broked just before leaving on the trip. I installed it as we where leaving since it was easy to do and that meant I did not have to carry it home :) We also asked about oil pressure sending units & they did have two, so we got 'em.
After I installed my new tail light, we left we decided to go eat.
While eating we decided to hop on an interstate & get the heck out of the area so we could hop on smaller roads frist tomorrow morning & not have to worry about traffic. As it turns out we are heading for the same hotel we stayed in two nights ago, the same one I got hauled away in the Ambulance from L
