7/30 Tuesday Afternoon (Day 4)

Pat said we should go to Bristol since we were close and it was my birthday. So off we headed. How could I turn that down when she came up with the idea :)

We got to Bristol, but couldn't find the track, so we stopped and asked a cop. He sent us right to it. When we found it, we just drove in the back gate. We did not know it was the back gate at the time, but we got in and did not see anyone.

We drove around the complex a bit looking around. We then drove up to the track and looked, and there was a police car and some other cars there.

We did not see anyone up to that point, so we thought we would walk in. We walked in and heard some voices from the grandstands but never saw anyone. We looked around and took some photos.

This is standing in turn 4 looking down the straight at turns 1 & 2. This photo was taken from where we walked into the track.

This is standing in turn 4 looking at the pits. It is hard to believe they get all those trailers and everything in this little area. They where re-taring the pits while we were there and you can see the truck just on the other side of pit wall. They were covering up the old paint of the pits to paint them for this race. The Food City was about to be covered and the Sharpee 500 was about to be painted there.

Once again, standing in turn 4 looking at turn 3.

Standing in the same place, looking at turn 4.

Here is a close up of turn 4 standing at the fence.

I did the best I could to stand in the same corner and take a panorama shot by hand. It's not to bad, but not perfect.

Here is lookin' down the straight at turns 1 & 2 from turn 4.

Not much to explain on this on I guess.

Ya gotta start and finish somewhere.

See the description to the left :)

It looks like someone had a little traction problem in turn 1.

Da scoreboard over turn 1.

This shot of turn 1 you can see the track a little better, but it's hard to see the skid marks on the way to the wall.

From turn 1 to turn 2. This shot does not have the fence in the shot because I stuck my head out the hole in the fence where the camera usually sits.

This one is looking down the straight at turn 4 while looking out the camera hole in turn 1.

Here's another shot of 1.

When we tried to leave we walked to the gate we came in and it was locked. We thought (hoped mostly) maybe this was the wrong one, so we walked to the next gate and it was locked too. So we went back to the first gate and yep, it was the correct one. We went back to gate 2, and there was a police officer there and a couple of other people. They asked if we needed out, and we said yes. So the officer came over to let us out and asked how we got in there. I said we just walked in. He sorta laughed and said they were having a security meeting for the races from Aug. 21-24. This was the last shot we took before we found out we were locked in. We walked in at the other end of the stands by turn 4, so we're under turn one in this shot.

We thought it was sorta strange, that we walked in during a security meeting and got locked in the track while the meeting was going on. But hey, it was my birthday and we got locked in a race track, it can't be all bad :) So he let us out the gate, and then waited at the next gate for us to leave, so he could lock it too. Good thing he was there or we would have been climbing over or crawling under fences, and would have still been locked in since we could not get the car through the next gate.

On the way out, we finally found the gift shop and it had closed before we got there, so I didn't get a cool shirt for my birthday from Bristol. We took some photos by the pace car though :)

This shot has me driving the Miata.

And this one has Pat driving it.

We then went out to eat. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and while I was gone, Pat had the waitress bring me a piece of cake for my birthday. It was quite tasty.

We then stooped at another Motel with a pool & spa. Only problem was the spa was in a private room that you had to pay for, and not out by the pool for everyone to use. Not only that, but the pool closed @ 9:30 and we got there at about 9:30. So no luck again with the swimmin' thing...Dang.
