Day 5 - Tuesday 9/19

Lunch

Drive on

While Pat got stuff ready in the room, I started the day taping the window of the Miata. You can see from the picture, it was dark out, not to mention it was raining. If that wheren't enough, I was putting clear packing tape on clear glass. Hopefully doing thiswill keep any loose glass shards from falling on us out of cracks in the windshield. I taped the outside first and it went pretty easy.

The inside was a different story. I didn't clean the glass off the seats, dash, & floor before taping just in case during my taping I knocked more down. If I knocked more down I would have to clean again, and I wasn't really looking forward to that. Once I started the inside, the only way I could get the tape all the way across the shattered area was to sit on the doorsill and lean in. But...now that I was on the inside, leaning in, and looking up at the glass, in the dark, I couldn't see what I was doing. Because of that, when I put the tape on, I couldn't tell where I put it. I knew I put it there, but not a clue where. I couldn't even run my fingers along the glass to try to feel the tape because I didn't want to get any glass slivers in my fingers. So I just kept placing more tape on the window until I couldn't stand to lean in any more.

Once I gave up with the taping, we loaded the Miata & where off to get new glass. Only problem was it was still raining & we hoped the window didn't leak. Not to mention the wipper didn't work very well on the window, and that didn't help with visibility. Just before we arrived it stopped raining & turned to a nice day.

Here the two guys are taking out the new window. the guy to the right is a new guy. This is his first window replacement.

Preparing the window for install

Preparing the surface for glass install

The galss is on! WOOHOOO!!!!

Now that the glass is on, they tape it up to hold it in place as it dries.

All done and ready to go. They said it would be best to keep the tape on for a day

Once it was fixed, we where on the road again enjoying our vacation :) The airbags are still blow, but now we can see!!! First stop....FOOD!

We stopped at Rib Country and man was it good. We plan on making this a regular stop on Deal's Gap trips. We may even try to bring the club here next year it was so good!

As we where driving, we where keeping a close eye on the odometer. It was getting close to flipping over 150,000 miles :). As soon as it hit, we pulled over & got a photo of the odometer and the GPS.

150,000 miles

Here's a shot of the GPS.
It was at 4:10 in the afternoonN 34°32.957, W 83°17.115

We didn't get many photos today as we where so excited to get the glass back in and be driving around so we could see where we where going :)

Just after the 150,000, we drove through Martin, GA.

As we where going through Martin and looking at the direction we where heading, Pat thought of MAZMART. MAZMART is a Mazda Junk, and since I am now in the search for some Mazda Parts we thought we should stop there and see if they had anything we wanted/needed. To find out the location I phoned a friend and found thelocation. After finding where it is located, he started to head for it. It is right by Atlanta, GA, which was still a ways away, but still very close since we had no general direction to head. Now...we have a plan :)

Along the way there, we found a couple of twisty roads :)

It came time for a potty break & possible snack stop, so we found a gas station. We where close to 4 lane highway, so there where a couple of truck stops. We stopped at one & when we do, we always check to see if they have a waterless hand cleaner we like. They didn't, so we went across the road to the other station. Again, no cleaner. Since it was getting close to dark, we planned on searching for a place to stay for the night. We got in the car & it would not start. As soon as it did that I knew what it was as I have had this happen before. We unloaded most of the trunk & I checked the battery cable. Yep, one was disconnected. I'm not sure how that happened, so I reconnected it and we where on the way again.

We searched the GPS for a Motel, found one, & headed for it.
