Day 1 (Saturday Afternoon)

We decided to stop for the night and stopped at a place right across the street from the Mississippi. It was $49 for a night. We decided to try the next town to see if we could find a room for a little less. We drove through the next several towns and they were all so small they hardly had a stop sign, much less a motel. We finally found some motels in Troy, Missouri. We stopped at Super 8 and they wanted $80 a night. Ouch, so much for finding one for less. We thought we would try the one across the street, and they wanted $45 plus tax, so we took it. We sure spent a lot of time and looking to save $4, but...we were drivin' around the countryside, so how bad could it really be?

We talked to the guy at the desk and he came out and looked at the car. We talked car for a bit (I guess NOPI was in St. Louis this weekend) and then he checked us in. We got up to the room and it would not lock. We could just open the door without the key. So we went back to the desk and got the next room. It worked :) Finally we had a room. So we went and got gas (second fill up for the trip and I forgot to add the gas additive that I went back for at the start of the day both times). Oh well, maybe next fill up.
