It rained for most of the day today which stunk. There were so many nice roads and they where all wet and the top was up. There was not much we could do as the entire country was being rained on. So we kept heading down the road. Since we where in the area anyway, we decided to head to Deals Gap. Before we got there, we stopped at the Wheels bike shop, but it was closed :(
We continued down 129 until we went by Tapoco Lodge that we stay in for the WCMC Deals Gap trip. Pat went in to see when they served dinner, and we had 45min before they started serving. SO...since we were at the Gap, we had some time to kill...and I knew exactly how to kill it :) WE DID THE GAP BABY. Only thing was it was still rainin' but hey, we did it anyway. As we got to the Cross Roads of Time there was a White 94 Miata in front of us and we followed it through the Gap. What more could we have asked for than to follow another White Miata through the gap :) Well, ok...no rain, but what else! We followed them through, and at the end, they stopped and we talked to them. It was their first time through since they got here too. So for the return trip he told us to go first and we did. On both trips through we came up to slow vehicles and they were kind enough to pull over so we could pass. We stopped at the Cross Roads of Time and talked to them again. Then we went into the shop and talked to some others, took some pictures, and other stuff. |

Next we went to Tapoco to check out what was for eats. Then after talking to them, we remembered that you sorta had to preorder your food before hand because they have so few people there. Oh well, we then drove to Robbinsville and got a room at Phillips Motel. It was a nice small place. It was a little different, but in a nice way. The lady running it took it over after her Mom passed away. She had her office in her house. You would walk up to a porch, and she had a huge glass window like a bank window, and a bank sliding drawer to pass stuff back and forth through. She even had a mike and a bad sounding, little speaker to talk through. Through the glass window, you could see right into her house. That was different. She also said each room was different since when her Mom made the Motel, she added one room at a time as she had the money. There was also a gas grill outside our door, a couple of burning pits, and a walkway. So it was pretty cool. There will be photos tomorrow morning since it was dark by the time we had a chance to take photos. We then had time so we went to the Gap again. It was probably one of the slowest runs ever through the Gap. It was dark, raining, and bad patchy fog. It really took the fun out. Pat drove part way through and had me drive the rest of the way. It was so foggy that when we got to the rest stop at the top, we drove right past and did not even know it. So we turned around and came back for the night. |
