Day 7 (Friday Afternoon)

Although we did find some good roads, we also found some boring roads too. So much so I started taking photos of the clouds as my entertainment.

Somewhere along the way, we had to eat. So we stopped at a Sonic. Pat wasn't to excited about it as she says it is to greasy. She decided to give it one last try, and it didn't leave her feeling so good. So Sonic is now off the list of places we get to stop and eat at.

On the way to Mommoth we came across this dam out in the middle of no where. We where just driving through the country and came up on it. Actually before we got there we saw some road signs that said no trucks over a certain length. We couldn't figure out why until we got to the dam. It was very cool to see, but it was dusk when we got there, so I got the best photos I could.

Here you can see if you where to go straight on the road, you would drive off the end of the road and over a cliff. There is a 90deg. turn to the right to cross the bridge. If you look just to the left of the sign in the center of the photo, you can see that the end of the bridge had a bench built in it. Straight across the road is another bench. We thought this was different.

We walked around and then talked to a Ranger that was running through the grounds as he was quitting for the night. We ended up talking for quite a while. It was late when we started talking to him, so this really threw our Motel search off as it was 9:00 when we got back on the road. It got down to the time we were getting desperate. We came to a town on the map that we thought would be large enough to have a Motel, but it was having a festival this weekend. The town was packed. I would have shot some photos, but...it was dark :) You saw the last ones at dusk right?

They did have a Motel, but the motel said full. The lot was less than half full, so we think they just closed and went to the festival. So we drove to the Police station and asked if they knew of a motel. As we walked up to the front door, there was a large dog laying on the sidewalk. Pat just walked past him, but I stopped and talked to him. I stood in front of him and he wagged his tale while laying on his side. He didn't move other than whappin' his tail on the floor. Well, he did roll his eyes up at me. I wanted to pet him, but not knowing him, I didn't chance it. We went in the station and they called around for us in a search for a room. They finally found one and had them hold it for us. We drove right to it.

Along the way there was a guy standing in the road waving his arms. I didn't know if I should stop or not, so I did. I did not know if he really needed help or if he was hitch hiking, but he was waving his arms in desperation. We stopped and he asked for a ride saying he needed a ride to the boarder quick. We told him he would not fit, he said he did not care, he would ride on top. We said nope and left :) Oh well, so much for trying to be a nice guy and help someone. We were then trying to figure what kind of trouble he was in that he needed a ride to the boarder.

We finally got to the motel in Celina, TN, and it was a little more than we wanted to pay, but we needed a room. To get the room you had to go to the bar to pay. The guy at the bar and I had to yell at each other to talk as it was Karaoke night and loud. I finally got the room. We went up the hill for the room, and it was ok, but Pat said she didn't like the shower. She said she got scalded and frozen within seconds from other people turning on and off water. Oh well, what ya gonna do?
